Junior School

Every learner is unique. Sometimes, students crave an extra challenge to keep them engaged and energized. At other times, they might need focussed time outside the classroom to navigate especially complex material or to sharpen their skills in areas that need work. An enriching environment and on-site specialists help students to thrive and to stay on track to achieving their full potential.

Enrichment Talent Pool Model
Used with students needing challenges beyond what is taught in the classroom. This operates on a classroom pull-out basis and is directed toward students who consistently excel.

Learning Through the Arts
This program is offered in partnership with the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. It allows students to learn curriculum skills and knowledge from adult artists other than their teachers.

Study Skills
Junior School is a great time to start building effective study habits. Students learn time management along with organizational and study skills.

Student Assessments
SJR’s Learning Support Specialist provides key math assessments as well as assessments of reading comprehension and vocabulary.

Language Support
Students who have articulation or language difficulties will receive assistance from the Learning Support Specialist. These sessions are typically conducted outside class.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)
For those students whose first language is not English, support is provided by the EAL teacher. Available to both day and boarding students, this service helps students enhance their English skills and offers the opportunity for one-on-one help.

Learning Support Specialists
This service is available to all students by request. Support can be initiated either by parents or by classroom teachers.

Home Learning
If students require additional practise or support for home study, individualized packages can be prepared for home learning. Available on an as-required basis.
