SJR Legacy Circle - Planned Giving
Planned giving is the ultimate expression of caring for any institution, involving first the careful consideration of all of your options for making a gift, and then choosing the gift strategy that makes the most sense for you and your family. It allows you and your family to benefit from making a gift now, and provide a lasting remembrance of your commitment to future SJR families.
Individuals who have confirmed with us that they have made provision for SJR in their estate plans become members of the SJR Legacy Circle. If you have made a provision for SJR in your estate plans, please fill out the SJR Legacy Circle Information Form and return to SJR. It would be our pleasure to thank you!
Not only can you choose what type of gift you want to make, but also when to make your gift, as planned gifts can be made outright today or be deferred to a later time. Details on types of bequests and sample will clauses can be found here.
Please contact us for more information, or to arrange for a representative to meet with you to discuss your options.
Where to Give
Endowment funds are held by the SJR Foundation and remain at SJR in perpetuity. The Endowment supports scholarships, financial aid and ongoing maintenance of our existing facilities and grounds.
Scholarships are awarded to students based on merit. Students do not generally apply for scholarships. The benefit to the student is in the recognition of work well done, and can be beneficial to students when building their university CV’s. Approximately $100,000 of the financial aid budget is given in the form of scholarships. Contact the advancement office to learn about creating a named scholarship.
Needs Based Financial aid is awarded to students based upon the financial status of their parents. There is no performance test applied to financial aid awards – any student eligible to attend SJR in good standing is eligible to apply for bursary assistance. Approximately 60 – 70 students, predominantly in Middle and Senior School, hold bursaries each year that reduce their tuition cost by up to 50% and up to 75% through the Red River Scholars Program. Approximately $450,000 of the financial aid budget is given in the form of bursaries.
The St. John’s-Ravenscourt School Foundation Inc. (SJRFI) was incorporated in 1998 as a successor to the SJR Foundation, which was created in 1962 to administer any property and assets that may be conveyed to the Foundation by the School or by friends of the School.
Gifts made to the Endowment are held by the Foundation and remain at SJR in perpetuity. Funds are invested, with the investment proceeds granted to SJR for the provision of bursaries and scholarships and other program support throughout the School. Allocations to the School are, by agreement between the School and Foundation, determined annually based upon an agreed percentage relating to the contributed capital of each fund, taking into account earning projections and current retained income.
Each year, SJR grants over $400,000 in needs based financial aid and over $100,000 in scholarships. This not only rewards students for outstanding achievement, but often provides critically needed financial support. It is the Endowment that provides the funds necessary for these important financial supports for our current and prospective families. Providing needs based financial aid helps to ensure that SJR is accessible to a broad range of worthy students.
