Leading Change
Throughout our history at SJR we’ve never stood still and waited for the next big thing. As one of Canada’s premier independent schools, we know that it’s not just our obligation to be ready for change—but to lead it. Canada is transforming from a manufacturing to a knowledge economy and that requires an entirely different way of looking at the skills our children need in order to participate. That you are reading my letter online today is proof of a radically different environment than anything our founders could have foreseen. But we’re ready.
We’ve kept a keen eye on the world around us, anticipated the future, studied the implications of new methods, approaches and tools. Then we’ve brought the best of those new ideas to classrooms in a measured, thoughtful, and powerfully effective way.
But what does that really mean? It means innovation at every level as a means of increasing challenge, rigour and insight. It means building on our knowledge of how the brain works and how our students learn. It means integrating traditional disciplines in ways that not only engage students in a new variety of instruction, but that allows for a deeper and richer understanding. It means looking at things sideways and perhaps most fundamentally, letting the students take ownership of the questions to be asked and of their own learning. It means continuing to be a leader in education.
We’re here to help prepare your children for whatever the future might bring. We’re ready. We want them to be, too.
