Principal of Senior School

Strive to Excel ~ Serve with Humility ~ Lead with Integrity

St. John’s-Ravenscourt School invites applications for the position of Principal of Senior School.

Located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and founded in 1820, St. John’s-Ravenscourt School (SJR) enjoys a preeminent position in the community of Canadian independent schools. A university-preparatory day and boarding school for boys and girls, SJR serves over 900 students (20 of whom are boarders), from kindergarten to grade 12. A warm and welcoming environment, SJR consists of a single campus housing Junior, Middle, and Senior Schools. The School’s Mission is focused on its diverse body of students and their achievement. Academic excellence is attained by meeting the needs of all learners, and is achieved by a commitment to best educational practices.

Reporting to the Deputy Head, Academics, the Principal of Senior School will be a key member of the School’s Senior Administrative Team with comprehensive responsibility for all activities involving students and faculty in the Senior School. The Principal of Senior School leads the creation and maintenance of a healthy, safe and dynamic learning environment in which both staff and students may best grow and develop. Senior School students are engaged in a challenging and diverse program aimed at developing their communication skills, immersing them in a wealth of co-curricular, community service, and leadership activities.

SJR is seeking an enthusiastic and progressive educational leader, at the forefront of innovative learning, to support and engage senior division faculty and staff in striving for excellence in all areas, while actively connecting with the greater community to keep stride with effective practices in education. The new Principal of Senior School will be an accomplished educator with a track record of leadership and administrative experience, and will join a School that is well-governed, financially secure, staffed by highly motivated and committed teachers and staff, and embraced by enthusiastic students and supportive parents. An advanced degree and training through Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS) are assets.

In accordance with its employment equity policy, SJR encourages applications from all qualified individuals. We thank all who apply; only those candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.

By submitting an application for employment, applicants consent to the School conducting inquiries into suitability for employment by contacting references provided and/or former employers, verification of academic records and any information publicly available online, including social media. The duration of this consent is limited from the time of the application to the time that hiring for the 2023-2024 school year is completed. This information will not be shared with any other organization or individual outside of the School, without your request or prior authorization, unless required or permitted by law.

SJR provides a respectful learning community for its students that inspires academic excellence, creative expression, a commitment to active healthy living, and social responsibility in order to develop compassionate, confident leaders. For the fourteenth year in a row, SJR has been named one of Manitoba’s Top Employers.
St. John’s-Ravenscourt School was founded in 1820 principally to serve the children of the Selkirk settlers. By 1834 there were forty students, evenly split between boys and girls. SJR has inevitably grown and changed over the years since, though its success throughout has been unimpeachable. We have graduated 18 Rhodes scholars, for example, and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II granted patronage and established a scholarship in her name in 1981. Today the programs are as strong as our reputation. A strong academic program is paired with an equally strong attention to the values of stewardship, ethical leadership, and excellence in all areas of academic, social and athletic life.
