SJR’s mission is to prepare young people for university and the challenges of the world beyond by providing “a respectful learning community for our students that inspires academic excellence”. Although the end of term is in sight, there is no let-up in concentration and achievement and I enjoy the buzz that accompanies impressionable young minds engaged in active learning. Make no mistake, we are accomplishing an enormous amount. Examinations are underway in Senior School. Middle School students are preparing for their assessments in early June, and Junior School students are approaching the end of a year of wonder, discovery and learning.
I am particularly impressed with the Class of 2018. As role models and leaders in our community, they are modelling a positive and proactive approach to their studies and adding to our clear sense of purpose. Our Grade 12 students can be proud of the way they are approaching their last few weeks of school.
I wish to congratulate our Senior School Math students who took part in the most recent University of Waterloo Math Contests: Fryer (Grade 9), Galois (Grade 10), Hypatia (Grade 11), and Euclid (Grades 11 and 12). SJR placed first in the province in all four contests, which is a superb achievement. I also commend Albert Yao for tying for third place in the province in the Manitoba Mathematical Contest for Grade 12 Students, which is organized through the University of Manitoba. Well done Albert.
Maintaining a balance between academics and co-curricular activities is key and I encourage students to sustain a healthy equilibrium until the end of the school year. With planning and support, students should be able to find opportunities for leisure as well as studying at this busy time. I strongly recommend that they make time for friendship, fresh air, and exercise.
Best wishes to you for a wonderful long weekend. I look forward to seeing many of you in School next week for EagleFest and Kendra’s Walk.
SJR is proud to be accredited and affiliated with several local, national and international educational organizations.
St. John’s-Ravenscourt School was founded in 1820 principally to serve the children of the Selkirk settlers. By 1834 there were forty students, evenly split between boys and girls. SJR has inevitably grown and changed over the years since, though its success throughout has been unimpeachable. Today the programs are as strong as our reputation. A strong academic program is paired with an equally strong attention to the values of stewardship, ethical leadership, and excellence in all areas of academic, social and athletic life.
