Youth Connect | State of the City Luncheon

The annual State of the City Address is one of Winnipeg's Chamber of Commerce's signature events, attracting a wide audience to network, connect with community leaders and witness the government’s priorities. Three SJR students were invited to attend Winnipeg’s 2022 State of the City Address, where Mayor Brian Bowman gave his final address to the City.
In partnership with HP Change, the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce also launched the Youth Connect Program at this event. We are thrilled to see three SJR students, among the 100 local high school students, attend this important event. It is great to see that students, from our community, express such interest in business and civil leadership in our city.
St. John’s-Ravenscourt School was founded in 1820 principally to serve the children of the Selkirk settlers. By 1834 there were forty students, evenly split between boys and girls. SJR has inevitably grown and changed over the years since, though its success throughout has been unimpeachable. We have graduated 18 Rhodes scholars, for example, and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II granted patronage and established a scholarship in her name in 1981. Today the programs are as strong as our reputation. A strong academic program is paired with an equally strong attention to the values of stewardship, ethical leadership, and excellence in all areas of academic, social and athletic life.
