Located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and founded in 1820, SJR enjoys a preeminent position in the community of Canadian independent schools. Reporting to the Deputy Head, Finance and Operations, the Business Manager is a strategic and detail-oriented leader responsible for the financial operations of the School. This includes payroll processing through Ceridian Dayforce, maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, overseeing purchasing, benefits administration, and investment banking, as well as preparing and analyzing financial reports. The Business Manager is also responsible for preparing and managing the annual audit and ensuring all financial processes operate efficiently with strong internal controls.
The Business Manager serves as the Pension Administrator for the School’s defined benefit pension plan, managing relationships with plan members, the Pension Committee, and investment managers. The role liaises with the School’s benefits provider regarding leaves and return-to-work arrangements, ensures appropriate payroll adjustments, and keeps Human Resources informed of staff leave statuses.
This position includes recommending and administering accounting policies that safeguard the School’s assets and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting. The Business Manager is a key resource in managing financial systems and providing operational support to departments and leadership across the School.

The successful candidate will hold a professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent), with a minimum of five years of supervisory experience. Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles / Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations, familiarity with relevant government legislation, and proficiency in payroll software and the Microsoft Office Suite are essential.
