Welcome
From my earliest conversations with members of the St. John’s-Ravenscourt School (SJR) community, I have been struck by the deep sense of pride and connection people feel toward this remarkable School.
Located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, SJR is a non-denominational, all-gender independent School offering an academically rigorous, university-preparatory program from Kindergarten to Grade 12. For more than 200 years, SJR has prepared students to become confident, compassionate and capable individuals who are ready to embrace challenges.
Relationships at the Heart of SJR
SJR is distinguished by our academic excellence, rich history, exceptional programs, and most importantly, our people. The relationships among students, faculty, staff, families, and alumni are central to the SJR experience. In my first year as Head of School, my top priority is to invest in these relationships and to listen, learn and understand what our community values most.
The relational nature of education is essential in the age of generative artificial intelligence. My research and experience have taught me that our task is twofold: to teach and facilitate critical discernment, empathy, literacy and numeracy, and at the same time to teach the ethical, effective use of AI in an age-and-stage appropriate manner. Both are fostered in classrooms where students are known and guided by teachers who care about who they are and how they think.
Bringing Our Strategic Plan to Life
We are in a pivotal moment in the life of SJR. Our new five-year strategic plan, Rise Together, provides a clear and ambitious direction for the years ahead. Our vision, Rise to the challenge, reflects both the strength of our community and our commitment to preparing students for a changing world.
I look forward to working alongside our faculty, staff, students, families and Board of Governors to bring the plan to life through meaningful actions and experiences that advance our mission of empowering students of promise to become people of purpose.

Our 23-acre campus, situated in south Winnipeg and nestled in an oxbow along the Red River, provides a unique setting for learning, exploration and connection. From bright classrooms and science labs to expansive athletic fields, creative spaces and our NHL-sized Dutton Arena, our facilities support a wide range of academic, artistic, athletic and co-curricular experiences.
