Babysitting Course
This November, the SJRPA is excited to offer a Red Cross Babysitting Certification course in conjunction with Aqua Essence Swim Academy. The course will be held at St John’s-Ravenscourt School on Monday, November 27, 2023.
This 8-hour in-person course offers first aid training and basic caregiving skills for students 11 to 15 years old. The program, taught by Red Cross certified instructors, will teach developing sitters how to prevent and respond to emergencies, how to meet the needs of children of different ages and how to promote themselves as babysitters.
Please note, that children are not legally allowed to babysit (even siblings) until they are at least 12 years old.

Fee:
$60 plus GST per student. SJR will provide lunches for participants for an additional charge of $5. This fee will be charged to your School account. If you’d prefer that your child brings their own (nut-free) lunch and opts out of lunch service, please advise when registering. SJR will provide an afternoon snack service for all participants.
What to Bring:
*All students should bring a stuffed animal or doll, paper and a pen.
Other course supplies will be given to participants at the School on the day of the course.
Each participant will receive a babysitting manual, diaper and a mini first aid kit. Participants must have attended 100% of the course in order to receive a Completion Certificate at the end of the course.
Registration
Each course is limited to a maximum of 25 participants. Registration will be open from Monday, November 6 to Wednesday, November 22, 2023 and can be completed online. To register, please go to www.aquaessence.ca. Parents who already have an account may log into the Customer Portal and follow the steps below. Parents who do not yet have an account should select “Register” to create an account and then follow the steps listed below:
- Once an account has been created, please select “Find Classes”
- Then scroll down to and select “Add A Filter”
- Select “Class Category”, select “Choose” and from the drop-down list select “ Red Cross Babysitting – School”
- Then select “SJR Red Cross Babysitting Course- Nov. 27”
- Parents at this point may register their child and make their online payment for the course.

St. John’s-Ravenscourt School was founded in 1820 principally to serve the children of the Selkirk settlers. By 1834 there were forty students, evenly split between boys and girls.
