St. John’s-Ravenscourt School is seeking a full-time, 10-month-per-year Science Laboratory Technician to support the Science Program across Junior, Middle, and Senior School. The Science Laboratory Technician is responsible for preparing materials and equipment for experiments and demonstrations across all science subjects, including making solutions, assembling and modifying apparatus, trialling activities, and supporting in-class learning and live demonstrations for multiple grade levels. The role involves liaising with teaching staff, maintaining a laboratory schedule, managing stock control of chemicals and equipment, updating digital inventory records, arranging repairs and maintenance, and ensuring laboratories and preparation areas are clean, organized, well-stocked, and safe. The Technician plays a critical role in the School in maintaining a healthy and safe working environment by leading WHMIS compliance, contributing to risk assessments, monitoring and reviewing health and safety procedures, and providing safety guidance to staff and students. Additional duties include cleaning and storing equipment, safely disposing of hazardous materials, sourcing supplies locally when required, supporting long-term projects and specialized resources, and remaining current with evolving laboratory practices, safety standards, and developments in practical science.
The successful candidate will have preferably completed a post-secondary degree or diploma in a science-related discipline or laboratory technology, along with current WHMIS certification and demonstrated training in laboratory safety and chemical handling. Experience working in an educational or research laboratory environment is strongly preferred, as is familiarity with chemical inventory systems, record-keeping, and occupational health and safety practices. First Aid/CPR certification is considered an asset, as is knowledge of secondary-school science curricula, laboratory procedures, and best practices in practical science education. The successful candidate will also demonstrate strong knowledge of WHMIS and experience developing and maintaining Material Safety Data Sheets.
