On Friday, December 14, members of the Middle School Entrepreneur Club set out their homemade or gently used products for sale to excited students and teachers.
From stress balls, ornaments, cards and plants to throw pillows, magnets, dog toys and soap, their products flew "off the shelves". Most of the budding entrepreneurs sold out within the first 10 minutes of the first Middle School Market Day, which happened during the morning break. Teachers and students also bought books, bookmarks, bath bombs and bracelets.
Students in the Entrepreneur Club spent the term planning and preparing their products. They worked diligently to fine-tune the quality of their products and finesse their pricing. The sale provided a real-life marketplace, which gave club members feedback on their pricing and the demand for their product. Overall, it was a learning experience they won't forget soon.
The net profits, as well as the generous donations from club members who chose to donate all or some of their material costs, went to Winnipeg Harvest. Students raised a total of $733.70, which will help many people in need during the holiday season.
Congratulations to all the entrepreneurs in Middle School, and thank you to all the teachers and students who supported the sale.
SJR is proud to be accredited and affiliated with several local, national and international educational organizations.
St. John’s-Ravenscourt School was founded in 1820 principally to serve the children of the Selkirk settlers. By 1834 there were forty students, evenly split between boys and girls. SJR has inevitably grown and changed over the years since, though its success throughout has been unimpeachable. We have graduated 18 Rhodes scholars, for example, and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II granted patronage and established a scholarship in her name in 1981. Today the programs are as strong as our reputation. A strong academic program is paired with an equally strong attention to the values of stewardship, ethical leadership, and excellence in all areas of academic, social and athletic life.
